Members are widely encouraged to participate in the association’s activities and the opportunities are many and various, for example:

    • Various sub-committees (e.g. Customs Airfreight, Customs Seafreight and Perishables) participate in regular discussions and active lobbying with SARS and other Government Departments and provide feedback on these developments to all members. This ranges from practical day-to-day matters, to issues of regional and national importance.

    • The Association is also represented at the Port Liaison Forum, a forum established under the auspices of the Cape Town Chamber of Commerce & Industry, where matters relating to the operation of Cape Town Harbour are discussed with interest groups such as TPT (Transnet Port Terminals), shipping lines, container depots, transporters and cargo owners. In addition the Association meets separately with senior TPT and TNPA (Transnet National Ports Authority) management on a regular basis.

    • The Association meets monthly with representatives of the airlines, Customs and ACSA (Airports Company of South Africa) to discuss matters relating specifically to the airfreight industry.

    • On the Seafreight side monthly meetings/workshops are also held with Customs in Cape Town.

    • Ad hoc matters with TNPA, TPT, container depots to mention but a few are also dealt with the benefit of members

    • The Association’s meetings are open to all members and anyone wishing to attend a meeting is welcome.

    • Through its active involvement in TETA: Forwarding & Clearing the Association is the representative body that looks after the training needs of the Forwarding & Clearing Industry in South Africa.

    • The Association is also the representative employer body in respect of labour relations with organized labour and would represent employers in any legal forum with organized labour.
